"If I were to meet those who kidnapped me, and even those who tortured me, I would kneel and kiss their hands. For, if these things had not happened, I would not have been a Christian and a religious today". Saint Bakhita

Beautiful Saint Bakhita, knew great pain in her life and yet her triumphant smile and great kindness was known to all who had the pleasure of meeting her. She is shown here holding close to her heart the things that she suffered in this life. It was those things that brought her closer to Christ. I pray that all of us can look at our own suffering with such eyes.

The original work on raw wood was commissioned by The AVODAH Collective in Denver, CO. Avodah provides space for women survivors of sex trafficking, families, and young people to find restoration through the creative act of farming, compassionate and supportive housing, with the integration of teaching and prayer.

I was honored to pray for these women while I worked. Women who will be standing in front of this image.

Saint Bakhita, pray for us.
